Legislation/Advocacy Committee
The Legislative Committee is appointed by the Board. This office does not have a term limit.
- When appropriate, research and propose policy guidelines and adjustment of the fee schedule for CMS' Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) within the scope of practice of anaplastologists. Follow CMS' lobbying procedures.
- Monitor CMS/HCFA (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services / Health Care Financing Administration) regularly regarding policies which may affect anaplastologists. Updates are available quarterly. Please inform the webmaster of any recent changes pertaining to the field of anaplastology.
- Coordinate communication with DMERC (Durable Medical Equipment Regional Carrier) medical directors so that any questions they have regarding Medicare payment for anaplastology services can be promptly answered.
- Establish a presence within the larger disability community through the Washington D.C. Office on Disability, in the Department of Health and Human Services.
- Each committee member will prepare summaries of the projects they have been working. These summaries will be edited for the website and newsletter to inform and guide the anaplastology community in the legislative arena.
- Be actively involved in working with legislators on draft bills to improve and defend the profession of anaplastology.
- Inform the IAA Board of any pressing issues that need to be dispersed to membership.
